Vintage furnishings highlight historic architecture

Woodley Park Colonial

This 1910 colonial on the edge of Washington, DC’s Rock Creek Park has gracious spaces and strong historic architectural features that have remained intact over the years – including soaring ceilings, a fireplace in the wide front entry, dark wood pocket doors, and a dark wood coffered living room ceiling. As a result, the home already revealed a clear appreciation for vintage pieces, unique artwork, and eclectic European taste, and we were happy to augment the clients’ existing style, making the home more comfortable for post-bedtime dinner parties and casual, open-house style groups. 

In the front entryway, we added a built-in corner storage banquette and round marble entry table, as the space serves as the single entrance into the busy home. We transformed the front library with the addition of floor-to-ceiling built-in bookshelves painted in a deep cobalt blue and hung a playful 1930s curved arm chandelier overhead. The library accommodates both quiet morning reading and evening cocktails with the addition of multiple vintage pieces highlighting stunning craftsmanship, including a walnut, drop-leaf game table and chairs, and a seating area featuring a Carl Malmsten sofa, a pair of patinated bentwood armchairs, and a mirror top coffee table. In the rear of the home, we redesigned the breakfast nook to accommodate the family’s everyday needs. We furnished the living room with a vintage Caillette chair, a large sectional, and updated lighting and window coverings to better align the home with the client’s distinctive aesthetic.
