Renovation of first and third floors; furnishing pieces are the homeowner’s own pieces

Jared Kuzia

When designing this home in the historic district of Logan Circle in Washington, DC, our clients' love of travel took center stage. The couple spends considerable time in Greece and Mallorca, and they were eager to bring that Mediterranean feel to their home in DC  while maintaining the hallmarks of their classic Victorian row.

To maximize the natural light and promote indoor-outdoor living, we reworked the kitchen layout and opened up the rear exterior of the house for better access to the terrace. Other details on the parlor floor include a barrel ceiling in the dining room and the addition of an antique Victorian fireplace mantel to the living room to create a period-appropriate focal point.

On the the third floor, the space was dramatically reconfigured into an open-concept owners’ suite. Plaster walls, a free-standing shower, and arched pocket doors help create a sanctuary in the center of the city that feels deeply personal and nurtures the home owners’ well-being.
